You own your stories. We provide the tools to help you record, organize, and preserve them. These terms explain how it all works.

1.Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using Tell Me Your Story ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

These Terms apply to all users of the App, including storytellers who record memories, family members who contribute guest stories, and anyone who views or orders a printed book.

2.Description of service

Tell Me Your Story is a voice-first memoir app that helps you record spoken memories, transcribe them on your device, organize stories into life chapters, and optionally produce a printed book. The App includes:

  • Free features: Voice recording, on-device transcription, story organization, photo attachment, PDF book export, iCloud sync, and guest story sharing.
  • AI Story Creator (one-time in-app purchase): AI story polishing, AI-generated follow-up questions, and the AI Book Editor that assembles your stories into a cohesive book with a foreword, chapter introductions, transitions, and an afterword.
  • Printed book ordering (pay per order): Professional printing and shipping of your book, fulfilled by a third-party print partner.

3.Your content and ownership

You own your content. All recordings, transcripts, photos, stories, and personal data you create through the App belong entirely to you. We do not claim any ownership, license, or rights to your content.

What this means in practice:

  • Your stories are stored in your private iCloud account. We never have access to your content.
  • AI-polished text and AI-generated book sections (forewords, chapter introductions, transitions, afterwords) become your property once generated.
  • You may export, share, publish, or use your stories and generated book content in any way you choose.
  • We do not use your content for training AI models, advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.

Guest contributions: When family members contribute guest stories to your book, they retain ownership of the content they record. By contributing, they grant you permission to include their stories in your book (both digital and printed). Contributors can request removal of their stories at any time by contacting the book owner.

4.AI features and disclaimer

The App offers optional AI-powered features including story polishing, follow-up question generation, and AI book assembly. These features use third-party AI services (currently OpenAI) to process your text.

Important things to know about AI:

  • AI is optional. You choose when to use AI features. The App works fully without them.
  • You always review. AI-generated text is always presented for your review and approval before being saved. You can accept, edit, or reject any AI output.
  • AI may make mistakes. AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, awkward phrasing, or errors. You are responsible for reviewing all AI output before using it in your book.
  • Originals are preserved. AI polishing never overwrites your original transcript. You can always revert to your exact spoken words.
  • Processing is transient. Your text is processed and immediately discarded. Neither we nor OpenAI store your story content. See our Privacy Policy for details.

We do not guarantee the accuracy, quality, or suitability of AI-generated content. AI features are provided "as is" and may be updated, modified, or discontinued.

5.Purchases and payments

The App offers a one-time in-app purchase ("AI Story Creator") that unlocks AI features. All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's terms and conditions.

  • No subscriptions. The AI Story Creator is a one-time purchase. There are no recurring fees, hidden charges, or expiration dates.
  • Refunds. Refund requests are handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not process refunds directly.
  • Restore purchases. You can restore your purchase on any device signed into the same Apple ID via Settings in the App.
  • Legacy users. Users who installed the App during the initial free period retain permanent access to all non-AI features at no cost, in accordance with Apple App Store Guidelines.

6.Printed book orders

When you order a printed book, your book PDF is forwarded to a third-party print partner for production and shipping. By placing an order, you agree to the following:

  • Third-party fulfillment. Printing and shipping are handled by our print partner. Delivery times, print quality, and shipping are subject to the print partner's capabilities.
  • Pricing. Prices are displayed before you confirm your order and include printing and shipping costs. Prices may vary based on page count, cover type, and shipping destination.
  • Content responsibility. You are responsible for the content of your book. Ensure that you have the right to include all stories, photos, and guest contributions before ordering.
  • Data handling. Your book PDF and shipping address are forwarded to the print partner solely for order fulfillment and are deleted after printing. See our Privacy Policy for details.

We are not responsible for print quality issues, shipping delays, or damage in transit. Contact our support team and we will work with the print partner to resolve any issues.

7.Acceptable use

Tell Me Your Story is designed for preserving personal and family memories. You agree not to use the App to:

  • Create, store, or distribute content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or violates the rights of others.
  • Misuse AI features to generate content that is misleading, fraudulent, or designed to deceive.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, modify, or interfere with the App's functionality or security.
  • Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.

Since your content is stored in your private iCloud and we have no access to it, enforcement of these terms relies on Apple's platform policies and applicable law.

8.iCloud and data storage

The App uses Apple iCloud (CloudKit) to store your data. This means:

  • Your data is subject to Apple's iCloud Terms of Service and storage limits.
  • We are not responsible for iCloud availability, data loss due to iCloud issues, or storage quota limitations.
  • We recommend keeping your iCloud account secure and maintaining adequate storage for your recordings and photos.
  • If you delete the App, your data remains in your iCloud account until you explicitly remove it.

9.Our intellectual property

The App itself — including its design, code, icons, illustrations, and brand identity — is our intellectual property and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

  • You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the App.
  • "Tell Me Your Story" and our logo are our trademarks. You may not use them without our written permission.
  • This does not affect your ownership of the content you create using the App (see Section 3).

10.Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
  • We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill.
  • Our total liability for any claims arising from your use of the App is limited to the amount you paid for the App or in-app purchases in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or limitation of liability for certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

11.Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
  • Content you create, share, or include in printed books, including guest contributions you accept.
  • Your violation of any third-party rights or applicable laws.

12.Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device. Your data remains in your iCloud account and can be exported or deleted from the App's Settings before uninstalling.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to AI features or backend services if you violate these Terms. Since your core data is stored in your private iCloud, termination of backend services does not affect your locally stored stories, recordings, or photos.

Sections 3 (Content Ownership), 10 (Limitation of Liability), 11 (Indemnification), and 14 (Governing Law) survive termination of these Terms.

13.Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the App.

Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you disagree with any changes, you should stop using the App and export your data.

14.Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Germany.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also enjoy the protection of the mandatory provisions of the consumer protection laws of your country of residence. Nothing in these Terms affects your rights as a consumer under applicable EU law.
