Why a Memoir Book Is the Perfect Father's Day Gift

\n\n

It's personal and permanent

\n\n

A $75 flower arrangement dies in a week. A $50 gift card gets spent on socks. The National Retail Federation reports Americans will spend a record $24 billion on Father's Day gifts this year, with an average of $199.38 per person. Most of that money buys things that end up in a drawer or a landfill by August.

\n\n

A memoir book is different. It sits on a shelf and gets pulled down at Thanksgiving, at funerals, at births. Your dad's voice describing the summer he hitchhiked to Yellowstone at 19 doesn't depreciate. It becomes the thing your kids fight over inheriting.

\n\n

\"Father — A memoir book is the one Father's Day gift that becomes more meaningful every year

\n\n

It solves the \"dad who has everything\" problem

\n\n

Your dad doesn't need more things. What he doesn't have is a record of his own life in his own words. Ask yourself: do you know the name of his first boss? The town where he grew up? What he wanted to be at age 12? Most adult children can't answer these questions. And 90% of family stories vanish within three generations if nobody writes them down.

\n\n

A memoir book says something no other gift can: your stories matter, and I want them to exist after you're gone.

\n\n

It becomes a family heirloom, not just a gift for one person

\n\n

Your uncle who tells the same fishing story every Thanksgiving? His grandchildren will never hear it unless someone records it. A memoir book captures rhythm, humor, the specific way your dad describes things.

\n\n

And honestly, most Father's Day gifts are forgettable. According to NRF data, 58% of people buy a greeting card, 55% buy clothing, 50% buy a gift card. Your dad has received approximately 30 ties and 40 cards in his lifetime. He doesn't remember any of them. But a memoir book stays on the shelf, and ten years from now his grandchildren will still be reading it at Thanksgiving.

\n\n

How Tell Me Your Story Works

\n\n

Four steps. No typing or design skills required, and no year-long commitment.

\n\n

You buy the gift. Choose Standard ($49.99) or Premium ($79.99). One-time purchase, not a subscription. You receive a gift code in the format TMYS-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
Dad gets the code. Share it with a personal message (or use the gift purchase page to include a custom note). He downloads the free iOS app and redeems the code.
He records stories. Seven life chapters with guided prompts walk him through childhood, career, family, adventures, and wisdom. He taps one button and talks. On-device transcription handles the rest. No typing and no weekly homework emails.

\n\n

Most people finish their book in 4 to 8 weeks, recording a few stories each week. But there's no deadline. Dad can take six months if he wants. Tell Me Your Story doesn't expire like a subscription.

\n\n

Tell Me Your Story vs Other Father's Day Gift Ideas

\n\n

Here's how a memoir book stacks up against the gifts you're probably already considering. All prices are current as of April 2026.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Gift	Price	Lasts	Preserves Dad's stories?	Requires effort from Dad?
StoryWorth	$99/year subscription	1 year of access	Yes, but typed only	Weekly typing for 12 months
Remento	$99/year or $12/month	While subscribed	Yes (voice, video, or text)	Weekly prompts
Flower bouquet (delivered)	$60-$150 + delivery	5-7 days	No	None
Gift card	$25-$100	One-time use	No	None
Photo book (Shutterfly)	$56+ for 20 pages	Years	Photos only, no stories	You design it
Experience gift (dinner, tickets)	$50-$200	One event	Creates a memory, doesn't record one	Show up
Subscription box	$30-$60/month ($360-$720/yr)	While paying	No	None

\n\n

The price difference matters. StoryWorth costs $99 every year and requires your dad to type responses to emailed questions for 12 months. Remento is $99/year or $144/year on the monthly plan. Tell Me Your Story is $49.99 once, with no renewal coming in June 2027. And voice-first means your dad talks instead of types, which is the difference between a gift he actually uses and a gift that becomes another form of homework.

\n\n

StoryWorth's biggest Trustpilot complaint? Dads who never finish because typing feels like work. Tell Me Your Story solves that by making the input a conversation, not an assignment.

\n\n

Real Families, Real Stories

\n\n

Steven Abraham gave his father StoryWorth as a Father's Day gift. His dad was reluctant at first (weeks passed with zero entries), but eventually contributed 51 stories about his life. After his father passed away, that book became Steven's most valued possession. His takeaway: getting Dad to start was the hardest part.

\n\n

Tell Me Your Story is built around that exact problem. Your dad, the retired electrician who deflects every personal question with a joke about the weather. He's got two grills and zero interest in writing anything longer than a grocery list. But get him talking about the time he rebuilt a carburetor in his parents' garage at 17, and he won't stop for an hour. Voice input removes the barrier that kills most memoir projects: typing.

\n\n

And then there's your father-in-law. The one who says \"I don't need anything\" every single year. He means it about the ties and gadgets. He doesn't mean it about being heard.

\n\n

\"Young — The book Dad creates becomes something his grandchildren will read for decades

\n\n

Frequently Asked Questions

\n\n

How long does it take to create a memoir book?

Most people finish in 4 to 8 weeks, recording a few stories each week. There's no deadline and no expiration. Dad can record one story a month for six months if that's his pace. Tell Me Your Story doesn't punish slow storytellers the way a 12-month subscription does.

\n\n

What if my dad isn't good with technology?

Tell Me Your Story was built specifically for people who've never used an app before. Touch targets are 44 points minimum (the Apple accessibility standard most apps skip). The language is warm, not technical. Dad taps one button and talks. The app handles everything from transcription to finished book. No menus to dig through and no accounts to manage beyond his Apple ID.

\n\n

Is this a subscription or a one-time purchase?

One-time purchase. Standard costs $49.99, Premium costs $79.99. There are no recurring charges and no surprise fees. Once Dad redeems the gift code, all features are his permanently. Compare that to StoryWorth ($99/year) or Remento ($99/year).

\n\n

How is Tell Me Your Story different from StoryWorth?

Three differences. First, price: Tell Me Your Story is $49.99 once vs StoryWorth's $99/year subscription. Second, input: Tell Me Your Story is voice-first (Dad talks), StoryWorth requires typing email responses. Your stories are saved on your device and in iCloud. AI and book creation send selected text and photos to our service. Our service also stores book manuscripts and the original story text so you can edit your book. For the full breakdown, read the Tell Me Your Story vs StoryWorth comparison.

\n\n

What kind of book is produced?

\n\n\n

Can Dad add photos to his stories?

\n\n\n

When should I order to have it ready for Father's Day?

\n\n\n

What devices does it work on?

Any iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later, which covers most devices from 2018 onward. The app is free to download from the App Store. The gift code activates all premium features (AI polish and book printing).

\n\n\n\n

Give Dad the Gift He Can't Buy Himself

\n\n

Your dad won't ask for his own memoir. He won't sit down and type his life story into a laptop. But hand him a phone, ask about the time he got lost driving to your grandmother's house in 1983, and he'll talk for forty minutes without stopping. That's what Tell Me Your Story captures. His voice and his version of events, exactly the way he tells them.
